It’s rare for me to hear a modern shoegaze band and immediately want to drop everything to go grab a copy. This album was an exception. Moments after hearing “Sunny Skies” from Destination Ecstasy, I knew I needed to immediately head down to Amoeba Records.
My favorite aspect of the record is the way that the first track, the wonderfully-titled “Fuck the World”, blends in with the second track, “Sunny Skies”, which is my favorite on the record. The transition is seamless and absolutely beautiful, like waking up from a satisfying afternoon nap. Take a listen here:
My other favorite tracks from the record are the gliding, ethereal ”Ten”, the supremely fuzzy, disorienting echoes of “Severed”, and the synthy shimmer of “Dark Bloom”. All in all, Destination Ecstasy is a shining work of modern shoegaze. The fuzz bass remains constant throughout the record as do the melting guitars, and the dreamy, hummable, yet still barely-perceptible vocal melodies. Destination Ecstasy would make for a wonderful soundtrack to a daydream.
